EverUs Adventures · Spiti Valley · Ex. Delhi
Monasteries older than empires. The highest motorable villages on earth. A crescent-moon lake under a blanket of stars. Nine days, one bus, a group of strangers who become family.
Trip Overview
A trans-Himalayan cold desert of ancient monasteries, the world's highest villages, and a lake that changes colour with the sky. One of India's most unforgettable overland journeys.
The Destination
Spiti — literally "The Middle Land" — is a trans-Himalayan cold desert wedged between India and Tibet. Ancient monasteries cling to cliff edges, prayer flags snap in the wind above villages that sit higher than most of the world's mountains, and the Spiti River carves through a landscape so stark it feels lunar.
This isn't a trip you take alone — it's one you take with a busload of strangers from Delhi who, by the time you're camping beside Chandratal under an impossible sky full of stars, feel like old friends. Nine days, one unforgettable overland journey via Shimla, Kinnaur and Kaza.
"Somewhere between Khab Sangam and Kunzum Pass, the mountains stop being scenery and start being a memory you carry forever."
Packages & Pricing
9 Days / 8 Nights — travel by overnight bus (Delhi ↔ Shimla / Manali) plus tempo traveller through Kinnaur and Spiti.
The Journey
From the streets of Delhi to the roof of the Himalayas and back — every stop on this route has been thoughtfully planned.
Assemble at Kashmere Gate before pick-up time and introduce yourself to your fellow travellers — strangers who'll be friends by the end of this trip.
The trip guides brief you on the journey ahead, and then it's an overnight drive up to Shimla.
Welcome to Shimla! We switch from bus to tempo traveller here for a comfortable ride onward, with a short freshen-up halt on the way.
Watch the landscape gradually change as we traverse the Kinnaur Valley — the Land of Gods — passing the iconic Kinnaur Gate. Check in at Chitkul or Sangla and enjoy a homely dinner.
After breakfast, head towards Kalpa via the small town of Reckong Peo — a perfect pit stop, with a chance to spot Kinner Kailash Peak on a clear day.
In Kalpa, visit the 3,000-year-old Kalpa Monastery and Suicide Point for a picturesque view of the Kailash ranges before checking in for the night.
A pit stop at Khab Sangam — the union of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers — marks the dramatic shift from Kinnaur's green valleys to Spiti's stark cold-desert terrain.
In Nako, walk through the traditional mud-house lanes, visit the serene Nako Lake and the centuries-old Nako Monastery, before continuing on to Tabo.
Visit the thousand-year-old Tabo Monastery, followed by the Dhankar Monastery and the dramatic Dhankar Fort perched on the cliffs.
Reach Kaza — Spiti's headquarters — by evening and check in. The rest of the day is free to explore the small town at leisure.
Visit the iconic Key Monastery — the largest in Spiti Valley, home to hundreds of Lamas — before heading out to the highest locations in the world nestled within Spiti.
Cross Chicham Bridge (Asia's highest suspension bridge), visit Hikkim (the world's highest post office), Komic (one of the highest motorable villages), and Langza — the Land of Fossils, with its hilltop Buddha statue.
Head to breathtaking Chandratal — one of Spiti's most exquisite sights, shaped like a crescent moon — traversing the Kunzum Pass at 15,050 ft along the way.
Walk along the banks of Chandratal, dip your hands in its pristine waters, and as night falls, look up for a glimpse of the Milky Way, weather permitting.
Enjoy a scenic breakfast with Chandratal's ethereal views before bidding goodbye and starting the return journey to Manali, with a stop at the famous Chacha-Chachi Ka Dhaba.
We reach Manali by evening and, time permitting, get a quick freshen-up halt before boarding the overnight bus back to Delhi.
We reach Delhi early in the morning, with a heart full of memories and mind at peace. Hug your new friends goodbye and head home with unforgettable stories from Spiti.
