The Destination

The Middle Land — Spiti

Spiti — literally "The Middle Land" — is a trans-Himalayan cold desert wedged between India and Tibet. Ancient monasteries cling to cliff edges, prayer flags snap in the wind above villages that sit higher than most of the world's mountains, and the Spiti River carves through a landscape so stark it feels lunar.

This isn't a trip you take alone — it's one you take with a busload of strangers from Ahmedabad who, by the time you're camping beside Chandratal under an impossible sky full of stars, feel like old friends. Eleven days, one unforgettable overland journey via Shimla, Kinnaur and Kaza.

"Somewhere between Khab Sangam and Kunzum Pass, the mountains stop being scenery and start being a memory you carry forever."
Reporting Point: Gandhinagar Capital Railway Station — reporting 9:00 AM, boarding 10:05 AM. Exact platform details shared via WhatsApp before departure.

Welcome to the Hills

Arrive at Chandigarh around 8:00 AM into a fresh, misty morning. We'll be picked up by our tempo traveller and head straight for Shimla on scenic mountain roads.

Into Kinnaur Valley

We switch to our tempo traveller for a comfortable ride en route to Chitkul, with a short freshen-up halt on the way.

Day Five

Kalpa → Tabo

Via Khab Sangam & Nako Lake

A pit stop at Khab Sangam — the union of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers — marks the dramatic shift from Kinnaur's green valleys to Spiti's stark cold-desert terrain.

In Nako, walk through the traditional mud-house lanes, visit the serene Nako Lake and the centuries-old Nako Monastery, before continuing on to Tabo through Spiti's barren, high-altitude landscape.
